LAGOS STATE’S HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES AMID ECONOMIC HARDSHIP
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has implemented strategic measures to support citizens in the face of current economic challenges, showcasing a commitment to human capital investment. These initiatives, disclosed in a live program with notable media figures like Dr. Reuben Abati and Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, focus on easing the burdens faced by vulnerable populations.
Governor Sanwo-Olu announced a reduction in working days for civil servants in Grade Level 1 to 14 to alleviate stress without disrupting governance. Additionally, a 25% fare reduction in public transport was introduced, emphasizing an investment in the well-being of the workforce.
To combat rising food prices, Sanwo-Olu initiated agricultural interventions, distributing food packages to 300,000 vulnerable households and establishing “Sunday Markets” for affordable staple foods, directly contributing to human capital development.
In the education sector, the Governor announced additional transport support for teachers and a temporary suspension of tax payment evidence for school enrolment, promoting inclusivity and investing in human capital.
