Empowering the Youth of Lagos: Introducing the Wake Up IBILE Initiative (Learn to Earn)

At Human Investment Group (HIG), we believe that the future of Lagos and Africa lies in its youth’s hands. In line with our mission to drive socio-economic development through upskilling and empowerment, we are thrilled to introduce the Wake Up IBILE Programme as part of our Learn to Earn Initiative. 

This transformative program is designed to equip the youth of Lagos with the essential 21st Century Digital and Technical skills they need to thrive in today’s fast-evolving world. 

Why Wake Up IBILE? 

Lagos state has the highest percentage of youths in Nigeria (6.1 per cent) followed by Kano state (5.7 per cent) while Bayelsa state had the lowest (1.3 per cent) according to the NBS youth baseline survey. Lagos’s economic success and diversity pose a “suffering from success syndrome” as this has led to a high influx of youths nationwide seeking a better life. 

The IBILE Zones—comprising Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe—are rich in cultural heritage and potential. However, the youth in these areas often face challenges such as limited access to quality education and technical training. The Wake Up IBILE (Learn to Earn) initiative seeks to bridge this gap by providing tailored training and resources that empower young individuals to take control of their future, fostering a generation of skilled professionals, and innovative entrepreneurs to start up and grow businesses, earn a living and become proactive community leaders. 

Our Vision 

Our vision is simple yet powerful: to create a skilled workforce that can drive sustainable development and contribute meaningfully to the growth and transformation of Lagos. By focusing on digital literacy, technical skills, and entrepreneurial training, we aim to prepare the youth for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, enabling them to secure meaningful employment, launch successful businesses, and actively participate in community development. 

What We Offer 

The Wake Up IBILE initiative offers a comprehensive range of programs and services, including: 

Digital Literacy Training: From basic computer skills to advanced digital marketing, coding, and data analysis, our courses are designed to enhance digital proficiency and open doors to new career opportunities in tech like Data Science, Software Development, Machine Learning, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Game Development, Digital Marketing, and Computer Support Specialists. 

Technical Skill Development: We provide hands-on training in various technical fields, including electrical installation, plumbing, carpentry, and more, ensuring that participants are well-equipped with practical skills that are in high demand. 

Entrepreneurship Workshops: Our workshops are tailored to inspire and guide aspiring entrepreneurs, providing them with the knowledge, tools, and mentorship needed to start and grow their businesses becoming employers of labour. 

Community Development Projects: We encourage our participants to engage in community development projects, fostering a sense of responsibility and leadership. These projects are designed to address local challenges while promoting social cohesion and sustainable development.
