Abia State’s Bold Step Toward Job Creation

One such recent initiative that has caught our attention is the Abia State Government’s commitment to reviving the iconic Aba Textile Mill and Star Paper Mill—two formerly vibrant industries that once contributed immensely to the state’s economy.

During a reception held in his honour by the Union of Anambra State Associations, Aba Branch, Governor Alex Otti announced the government’s plan to resuscitate these moribund industrial giants. His vision? To create jobs, revive local industries, and strategically position Aba as the natural hub for textile and leather production in Nigeria.

“We are negotiating with the people that acquired the Aba Textile Mill. We want to return it to life,” Governor Otti stated.
“As a government, we are interfacing with AMCON. We want to acquire the Star Paper Mill and bring it back to life.”

These efforts are not just about reviving old infrastructure—they represent a larger, long-term plan to harness youth potential and drive Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state. Governor Otti further revealed that the government, through strategic partnerships, will soon begin engaging and training young people in various MSME sectors. This approach is aimed at building an ecosystem that promotes local production, supports innovation, and strengthens employment opportunities for the youth.
